First steps with AI in your business
The best way to get started with artificial intelligence is to solve a specific problem. Before choosing a tool, it helps to understand which task is slowing your team down, what result you want to improve and how you will measure it.
1. Identify a repetitive task
Look for frequent activities with clear inputs and outputs: sorting inquiries, preparing a first draft of a document or finding information in internal materials. Talk to the people who do the task and note where delays, rework and questions come up. Not everything needs AI: a simple rule or a process improvement can also solve the problem.
2. Measure your starting point
Write down how long the task takes, how many reviews it requires and what conditions a good result must meet. That baseline will let you compare the pilot with your current way of working. Assign an owner and agree on which metric you will use to decide whether the pilot is worth it.
3. Start with a small pilot
Choose a single use case, a small group of people and a trial period. Use information you are allowed to process and avoid including sensitive data without first reviewing how it will be handled. Make sure the tool fits into daily work and that there is a fallback if the system fails.
4. Keep a human in the loop
The output of an AI system can contain errors. Define who will review the answers, which decisions require approval and how mistakes will be corrected. Also test unusual situations, ambiguous instructions and cases where it is better to ask a person for help.
5. Evaluate before scaling
Compare the pilot with your initial baseline. Review quality, time, usage cost and maintenance effort. Gather feedback from your team: a useful solution should make work easier and be understandable for the people who run it. If the benefit is clear, expand the scope in stages; if not, adjust the process or try another approach.
A checklist to get started
• A specific task and an owner.
• A quality criterion and an initial measurement.
• Authorized information for the pilot.
• Human review and a plan for failures.
• A date to evaluate results and decide the next step.
